Hello and Happy Thursday!!

Happy Thursday, Parrot Heads!  Our fall weather has returned after that extreme cold blast last week.  We have an exciting weekend ahead!!  It’s Halloween Parade weekend!  (Because of the parade there will be no meeting at Hoppers this month)

October Events

Denver’s Broadway Halloween Parade!!!
Saturday, October 19
Our theme this year will be Zombie Parrot Heads on Vacation!
We will be building the float in Pete’s driveway on today (Oct 17) afternoon, tomorrow (Oct 18) and finishing up Saturday (Oct 19) before we haul it down to the staging area.  All are welcome to come help build the float.  It’s not a big production like the St. Patrick’s Day float, but it’s still a lot of fun.

This year, we’ll be building a Tiki Bar on the float, and we will have live music on the float!!  Thom Shepherd has agreed to play for us and to the crowd as we walk in the parade.  He’ll be a Zombie musician playing to all the Zombie Parrot Heads on Vacation.

This should be a super fun night!!  The weather is supposed to be pretty nice, so let’s have a good Parrot Head Phlocking for the parade!!!

I know you will all come up with AWESOME Zombie Parrot Heads on Vacation costumes! I can’t wait to see them. The creativity in this club is always amazing to see!!

Details for the parade:

Saturday, October 19th, 2019
3:30-5:00 PM – staging for the parade.
Meeting point:
Denver Health’s Rita Bass Parking Lot at 5th and Bannock 190 W 6th Ave, Denver, CO 80204
**The parade starts at 5pm, so everyone must be at the float before 5pm.

**Any vehicles that are not in the parade, must be parked at the former Kmart Parking Lot at W Alameda Ave and S Bannock St (145 W Alameda Ave, Denver, CO 80223). There will be a school bus looping to bring folks to the starting point of the parade. Please don’t leave anything of value in your vehicle as this is a public parking lot. All vehicles must leave the Rita Bass Parking lot at the start of the parade.  The parking situation works out nicely, because the old K-Mart lot is where the parade ends!!

We are doing our best to be respectful of our neighbors. Please DO NOT PARK IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD around the Denver Health Bass Parking Lot!!! Please bring a lot of candy and glow sticks!  We seem to always run out so the poor kiddos at the end of the parade route never get anything.  So, let’s all bring a lot so we don’t run out this year!!  Please bring a sturdy backpack to carry your candy in,  or pull a wagon, because we can’t store all the excess candy on the float.

SINCE THIS IS A CLUB MEETING NIGHT, THERE WILL BE NO OCTOBER CLUB MEETING

Another wonderful evening of live music!!  Thom will be playing on October 20 at Someplace Else Brewery!!!

Sunday, October 20, 7:00PM
Someplace Else Brewery – 6425 W 52nd Ave #6 Arvada

We can bring our own food in, so bring in a snack or dessert to share if you’d like.

Tickets are $20 and will be collected at the door, all proceeds go to Thom.
It’s always a good time at a Thom Shepherd show!!  Hope to see everyone there!

For those who haven’t heard, Thom and Coley have an AMAZING new album called “Shotgun.”  It is their best work to date.  They have been nominated for MANY awards for this album.  Thom will have some CDs for sale at the show, so pick one up!  You won’t be disappointed!!

We still have plenty of t-shirts for our 25th Anniversary!!!  We have quite an assortment of colors (Pink, as shown below, Black, Butter Yellow, Caribbean Blue, Steel Gray, Periwinkle, Salmon and Sea Foam Green).  We have a wide variety of sizes, and both men’s and lady’s cut shirts (lady’s cut are only available in pink). The one shown below is a lady’s cut, with both front and back pictured.

The front has the original Parrot Head logo on it, and the back has a picture on it provided by Dixie LaHood.  The pictures here don’t do it justice. They are awesome!!  We’ll have them at all the meetings. If you can’t attend a meeting and would like one… please contact Robin or Pete to arrange getting your cool new club shirt!  The cost is $30 each. (if you can’t make it to a meeting to pick one up, drop a check in the mail to us and please add $5 per shirt for shipping.)

The t-shirts are stored at Pete’s house, so you can buy some at the float build, or any time, if you want to stop by Pete’s house!

To those who have sent me emails asking for t-shirts, I sent them all out. Please let me know if you did not receive yours.  Sorry for the delay.

We also have T-shirts left over from the Parrot Head 5280 Fest (Party with a Purpose)  They are really nice!  We have white or teal colors, mens cut or ladies v-neck cut.  They will be for sale at all the meetings, or you can contact Robin or Pete to arrange getting one.  We will have some for sale at the next meeting.  They are on sale now for $20 each.  President Pete is modeling one below:

Colorado Avalanche Game??

We didn’t have enough interest to get the tickets for the October 12 game, but I think we have enough to get tickets for the January 2 game against the defending Stanley Cup Champs, St Louis Blues!

Thanks to those who have contacted us and expressed interest in going.

On the January 2 game,   We need to sell 50 tickets in order to get the nice room inside the Breckenridge Brewery before the game,  The tickets are $88 each, first level, 2 attack zone seats.  If we don’t sell 50 tickets, we can still get into the game as a group, so please let us know if you want to go!

Please contact Pete, Robin or Karen if you are interested.

Misc. Events

Escape to Margaritaville is coming to Denver for the holidays!!!

Ticket Sales are closed, Karen has the tickets.  She will have them at each meeting and at the Halloween Parade and the Thom Shepherd Show in Arvada.  If you can’t make it to any of those events, please contact Karen to arrange picking your tickets up at her home.  It is not her responsibility to get your tickets to you. We had a few problems with distribution of Rockies tickets, so please make arrangements to pick up your own tickets.
