What a fantastic Party With a Purpose!!
Thank you to all who attended… what a great event! We had absolutely incredible entertainment, a great raffle and silent auction, and we had awesome food as well!! We raised almost $7000 for our 2 charities and sent a lot of clothing and shoes to the Clothes for Kids in Denver.
Our 2 charities were:
My Fairy Dawg – Is a Colorado based non-profit dog rescue focused on finding the perfect long term home for each dog brought under our rescue umbrella. My Fairy Dawg Mother Rescue, Inc, established in early 2011, boasts a 100% success rate with over 800 dogs that have been placed since the creation of the rescue.
MFDM Rescue was founded in an effort to save abused and neglected dogs from across the United States, and pair them with loving and stable Colorado families.
Their formula for successful placement of each rescue dog lies in a plan that includes foster homes, behavioral modification training, complete vetting, an adoption agreement, and a trial period offered to every adoption candidate with their potential canine companion. Clothes To Kids of Denver -
The mission of Clothes To Kids of Denver is to provide new and quality used clothing to students from low-income or in-crisis families in the Denver Metro Area, free of charge.
History:
As school volunteers, Jode Eye and Marie McClung saw first-hand that inadequate clothing was a barrier to success among low-income children and youth. After some research, the two women discovered a tremendous need within their community for clothing for students, and worked together to found the first Clothes to Kids in Florida in 2002.
Gail Cerny, a volunteer serving in Colorado schools, also recognized a striking number of students without adequate clothing, which noticeably impacted their peer interactions, school attendance and ability to build self-esteem. After examining possible ways to meet this need in the Denver community, Gail visited the Clothes to Kids store in Florida in January of 2007. She was so inspired by the impact Clothes To Kids was having that she joined forces with Joyce Meyers, Lesa Butler and Mary Overington to found Clothes to Kids of Denver (CTKD), which opened its doors on September 2, 2008.
Today, CTKD provides hundreds of free school wardrobes each month to students from low-income or in-crisis families and has built a strong reputation among schools, human service agencies, shelters, hospitals, clinics and faith communities across the Denver Metro Area, which have come to rely on CTKD to meet the clothing needs of students from low-income families. Note: During the event, someone was taken onto the stage with one of the performers, and that made this person uncomfortable. From now on, no one will be invited to or asked to go onto the stage at any of our events.
Meeting Schedule
We will not have an August Meeting, because we will be together at the Mike Nash show.
Our next Club Meeting will be in November. This will be our big charity drive for the Tennyson Center for Children’s Christmas Event.
Sticky Pete’s Oysters and Half Shell Shack, Main Stage – This Saturday!!
Saturday, August 12: Mike Nash!
We’re bringing back our club favorite Mike Nash, before his Trop Rockin’ the Rockies Tour!
Southern Rockin’ Country with a twist of lime, a splash of salt water, and distilled in the backwoods of Tennessee…yep, that about sums it up!
Mike has spent well over a decade on the road-touring the US, Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, while building a grass roots fanbase for his original music. With story teller songs about life and love, lyrical tales from the unique people he’s met along the way, and of course plenty of summertime “drinkin’ at the lake tunes” with an island-inspired twist, there’s something in a Mike Nash show for everyone to relate to.
Mike’s music has been used in television programs on stations such as GAC and CMT and he is one of the featured performers in the 2016 Mailboat Records release of “Parrotheads the Documentary” https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4841610/
He also appears for a musical cameo in the Hollywood feature film “Chasing The Sun” https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5585240/
both available on Amazon Prime.
Cost will be $20 per person, with all proceeds going to the artist.
Meet and Greet will start at 5pm, with Mike starting approximately 6pm.
Please bring your own snacks and drinks for the evening, and please bring your own chairs.
