Parrot Heads, can you feel that extra bit of energy in the air? Thom Shepherd and Coley McCabe are in Colorado, I can just FEEL IT! We hope you’ll be seeing the at one of their many shows this weekend (see our Upcoming Events for the list). I really hope you join me to see them Saturday for our Party With A Purpose! For those of you attending, we are going to devote this week’s news to the party, to bring you all you need to know to be ready for the event. If you don’t already have tickets, Chris and I are aware of a few individuals who can’t make it, so let me know… we may have a (very) small quantity available.
Let’s Party With A Purpose!
Here is what you need to know to be ready to party on Saturday:
The current weather forecast for the party location on Saturday is a high of 70 F, and a low of 49 F. Right now it doesn’t look like it should rain (hooray!) but be prepared for anything. It’s a great idea to bring layers for the cooler evening weather. Sunscreen and bug spray isn’t a bad idea either.
The party starts at 1:00 PM and will continue through the day. Please don’t arrive early unless you signed up to volunteer for an early shift to help out. I’ll email volunteers tomorrow with a reminder, in case you don’t remember if you signed up.
Parking will be along the street and there is a walk up to the house. If you need assistance, we should have a golf cart available. Additionally, you may pull into the driveway to drop off heavy items or individuals with mobility concerns. There is no parking up the driveway. You may want to bring a small flashlight for the end of the night when you have to head back to the car. There are no streetlights and it can get fairly dark.
Here are some other reminders of what you can bring:
Bring your tickets! Unless you made arrangements to get your tickets at will-call, you will need them to get a wristband for entry.
Bring your own chairs. If you wish to bring a pop-up canopy you can, there will be space in the back area of the yard. Make sure you have a way to secure your canopy in case of wind.
Please bring a dish to share with the group. Volunteers will be helping direct where to put your food to keep things organized.
BYOB! Please bring your own cooler and ice for your personal drinks and jello shots.
Ice, Ice, Baby! If you can, an extra bag or two of ice is almost always appreciated.
Donations for Meals on Wheels. We will be collecting items for Meals on Wheels if you are able to contribute. Some suggestions of what to bring are canned items (especially proteins), boxes of pasta, jars of peanut butter, etc. We will also be collecting pet food and litter, as well as personal items such as shampoos, lotion and soaps. All of the above are always in great need.
Money! You’ve already bought your ticket, but you’re still going to want to bring cash or a checkbook to participate in our Raffles and Silent Auction. Our Grand Prize Raffle is for 8 one-way vouchers on Southwest Airlines, and tickets for this raffle are $20 each, cash only. We will also have our normal Chinese Raffle, and lots of great stuff up for grabs in the Silent Auction. We will take credit cards for the auction items, but whenever possible, checks and cash is preferred to avoid credit card fees. As a reminder, all money made from these three events goes directly to Meals on Wheels!
More Info
While you’re at the party, help us protect our environment. There will be recycle bins for your bottles, cans and plastic cups. Please make sure these are empty before you recycle them, and do not throw trash or items soiled with food in the recycle bin.
Last but not least, we are so very appreciative to Lee and Robin for hosting the party and allowing us to invade their yard once again! Be courteous and clean up after yourself before you leave so they will keep inviting us back.
That’s all I can think of. If I missed anything you need to know, please reach out to me. If you need to touch base with me on Party day, please call or text me.
See you Saturday!
