Happy Thursday! Sorry for missing the newsletter last week. Chris and I were on vacation, and we totally missed our deadline. We hope you had a good week! This week we have a TON of news, so let’s get right to it.
Denver Alzheimer’s Walk is This Saturday!
We have a big group signed up to walk at the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s this Saturday! The walk will take place at 9:00 AM at Denver City Park. Walkers who are registered should have received an email from me earlier this morning with walk-day details. If you don’t see an email from me, or if you’re participating but did not register, email me and I can forward the details to you. In short, we are meeting near the registration table between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM. The walk is at 9:00 AM, and the walk after-party is at the Irish Snug on Colfax for brunch & mimosas!
So far our team has exceeded our initial goal of $2000! Now we are trying to reach our stretch goal of $3000! If you are able to donate but haven’t yet, please consider making a donation to our Colorado Parrot Head Club team! You can donate online at: http://act.alz.org/goto/coloradoparrotheadclub
September Meeting is Also This Saturday!
Plan on joining us this Saturday for our monthly club meeting at Hopper’s Sports Grill. This is going to be a big meeting! We will have your Red Rocks tickets available to be picked up. We’ll also have a bunch of merchandise available if you pre-ordered, and then some. We’ll have Party With A Purpose shirts, CPHC flags, CPHC hats, and Red Rocks Koozies! (Sorry, the Red Rocks shirts have not yet arrived. We will do separate pickups for them when they come in.) Come get your tickets, stock up on your CPHC gear, and enjoy the last meeting of summer at Hopper’s with your phlock! The focus of this month’s meeting will be to come up with a plan for our Red Rocks tailgate party, so if you miss the meeting, we’ll send a recap next week with all the details.
This month’s charity raffle proceeds will benefit Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detective Dan Brite. Det. Brite was critically wounded in a shootout last month in Parker while responding to a report of a suicidal man with a gun near Sierra Middle School and Parker Adventist Hospital. This month our raffle proceeds will go to raise funds for Det. Brite and his family. We have some great raffle prizes and baskets up for grabs, so we hope that you dig deep and buy lots of raffle tickets this month for this worthy cause.
Don’t Forget your Peanut Butter & Pop Tops!
Each month at our club meetings we collect canned food, peanut butter and pop tops. Do you ever wonder where all of this goes? Below, Mike Arthur helps explain where your donations go each month, and why you should keep them coming…
Peanut butter and canned food: This goes to the FOOD BANK OF THE ROCKIES via 9News drive in November. The Food Bank of The Rockies supports all other food banks in the state of Colorado it is an example of helping everyone in the state that needs a helping hand. In November, 9News sponsers a day to drop off your contributions. Parrot Heads who wish to participate in the drop off meet at the Cherry Creek parking lot, decorate our cars and drive to 9News with our donations. Last year we contributed 700 lbs of peanut butter and food!
Pop Tops: We collect “pop tops” or pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House supports families who need to stay in Denver while a child is at Children’s Hospital. The tabs are donated at the beginning of December when they have their annual fund drive. The tabs are simply recycled, with proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. Last year we donated over 70 lbs of tabs, which if you laid them end to end, would be over a mile long!
So before you come to the meeting this Saturday, please grab some peanut butter or other canned goods, and remember “it’s time to pay the Mini Mart back!” And don’t “step on a pop top,” but instead remember to save them up and bring them to the meetings!
Support Dogfest on Saturday October 1st
Janette Lawler passed us info on this event for all your Parrot Heads that may want to attend! Dogfest is a citywide celebration of our four-legged furry friends and is coming up on October 1 in Centennial. Canine Companions for Independence will have a booth at the festival. We encourage our members to attend the festival and specifically, look for the Canine Companions for Independence while you’re there! If you can make a donation, even better! See the poster for this event below (click the poster for a larger image)
Party With A Purpose in the News
Did you see that our Party With A Purpose was featured in a news release on the Denver Post Your Hub? Foothill Commercial Builders, who helped support our cause with a food drive, submitted a news release about their efforts, our party, and all the good that came from our Party With A Purpose! Click here to read the article. Thanks Lee Grodsky for sharing, and thanks again to all who participated in this event!
MOTM Registration Ends Today!
Finally, TODAY is the last day to register for November’s Meeting of the Minds in Key West! If you haven’t registered… what are you waiting for?! After today we should get the last few additions to our list to confirm, and we’ll start communicating to all of you who registered separately about the event. If you signed up, watch for MOTM emails to come very soon, and a Facebook Group dedicated just to our CPHC MOTM attendees. This time I really mean it, it will be coming SOON!
