Decorating for the annual Christmas Party at the Tennyson Center for Children!!

Friday, December 13, 2019

If you are interested in helping decorate for the big Christmas party at the Tennyson Center, reply to this email and I will get you all the details. These kids have been through more than most of us can even imagine. So, if you have the time, please come out and help decorate for this event.

The decorating will start at 9am. Please bring wrapping paper, scissors, tape, ribbon and bows. There are a lot of cabinets in the center that will be decorated as big presents.

These kids need basic necessity items like blankets, stretch gloves, shampoo, toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes, etc. If you would like to donate any of these items, please contact Robin so we can arrange getting the items to the Tennyson Center by Dec 13.

We raised about $600 for the Tennyson Center last month, and it was VERY much appreciated. Thank you to all the Parrot Heads for the great turnout at our November meeting!! Thanks to those who brought raffle items and thanks to everyone for opening their wallets for the kids!

Quite a few club members have already signed up for this event. If you would like to sign up to place wreaths on the graves at Ft. Logan, or if you’d like to sponsor a wreath, please sign up here.

December Club Meeting

Saturday, December 21
Hoppers Sports Bar in Wheat Ridge

We will have our annual Toy Drive. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy for our toy drive.

Food Drive: One of our favorite charities, the Community Table, is desperately low on food. So, please bring canned goods, spaghetti sauce, rice, pasta, peanut butter or canned proteins so we can deliver it to the food bank in Arvada to help them out this holiday season.

Everyone bring a raffle gift for our Christmas raffle. Plus, we are going to have a tropical ornament exchange as well. So, start looking for tropical Christmas tree ornaments if you want to participate in the tropical ornament exchange.

We will also have an UGLY Christmas sweater contest. The winner will receive a great prize, so be creative!

December Charity –
The Charity this month will go to The Second Wind Fund. This organization helps children and youth at risk of suicide. While other suicide prevention organizations offer broad suicide prevention education and awareness, Second Wind Fund offers actual treatment services to at-risk children and youth. Second Wind Fund has built an innovative program to match children and youth ages 19 and younger, who are at risk of suicide, with a licensed therapist in their local community.

There have been 6 kids in our community who have taken their own lives in the past 2 months. All of them were ages 12 and 13. A good friend of Pete and Robin’s has a 13-year-old daughter who attempted to take her own life. Her mother found her, literally seconds, before she died. She has been in ICU for 3 weeks now, and doctors are saying she may never even know her own name again, and will be in the hospital at least 9 more months, to a year. This has been such a horrible tragedy for all of us who know the family. If anyone would like to help Kira’s family, we are going to “pass the hat” for a separate fundraiser for Kira’s family. Their medical bills are insurmountable.

The holidays are a hard time of year for so many. Please know that there are a lot of people who care, and a lot of ways to get help.

The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is at 1-800-273-8255.

Misc. Events

Jeff Dunham is coming to the 1ST BANK Center (Broomfield Events Center) on April 4.

Several in our group are interested in going, so we checked into group tickets. They don’t really have a group ticket sales up there, and we were not able to get a large group of tickets, but we did manage to get a few. We have a very limited number, so we will sell them on a first come first serve basis. The cost is $75 each. Sorry we can’t accommodate everyone, but there are still tickets for sale, so if you’d like to go, and can’t fit into our limited number, please buy some tickets online. It will be a very fun night. “Jeffafa” is a SUPER funny!

Contact us if you’d like to buy tickets.
