| CPHC Newsletter Hello and Happy Thursday! The weather looks to be nice for this weekend’s float build, hope to see everyone there. We only have a little more building to do on the float, so this weekend will mostly be painting and decorating time! ****************************************************************************************** March Events ****************************************************************************************** FLOAT BUILD SATURDAY & SUNDAY!! Denver St Patrick’s Day Parade – The theme this year is “Shamrocks and Shields.” (as in police and first responder) We have a great float designed, so come by and help us build and paint this weekend! Start getting your costumes ready for Parade Day!! Come as a police officer, fireman or “prisoner,” all parrot head style, of course.. or wear your best Parrot Head attire! We will be having 1 more float build weekend March 7 & 8 Pete’s house – 5461 Marshall St, Arvada 10am start time each day Bring snacks to share during the day, and please bring your own beverages. We will provide water. Wear old clothes – we’ll be painting and decorating the float! It’s looking good so far! Bring a chair to sit on for break time If it’s sunny, bring sunscreen!! PARKING – The restaurant next door is open on Saturdays, and they have been pretty busy, so there will only be a few parking spots there Saturday. We can park at the small machine shop parking lot to the South side of Pete’s main driveway and in Pete’s main driveway as well. The parade will be on March 14, with the step-off being at 9:30am More details for the parade as I get them. Once again, our sponsor, the Fainting Goat, will have a special menu put together for us after the parade. You must be a member to participate in the parade. Each member will get 2 wrist bands, if needed, for you and a guest. ****************************************************************************************** March Monthly Meeting ****************************************************************************************** March 21 – Hoppers 6pm I-70 and Kipling Wheat Ridge ****************************************************************************************** 2020 Pete’s Summer Concert Series Word got out in the Trop Rock Musician world, that the Colorado Parrot Head Club threw a kick ass concert/Party with a Purpose this year, so we have had several musicians contact us, asking if they can do house concerts for us. We have some amazing acts lined up! Some of these folks NEVER do house concerts but they heard what a great group we have so they want to do a show for us! Save the Dates!!! July 3 – The Landsharks! Where – The Big Stage at Pete’s House!! – 6pm – 9pm. Admission is $40 per person – with all proceeds going to the musicians. (This is a great price for a 5 piece band and legends.. the Landsharks!!) This will be a pot luck, so bring a dish to share Bring your own beverage of choice Bring your own chair. July 25, 2020 Party with a Purpose! This year’s PWAP will be on July 25, once again, at Pete’s house on the BIG STAGE!!… the Arvada Smokin’ Tuna Stage! Our opening act will be Erica Sunshine Lee!! Next up will be the incredible Sunny Jim (James White), followed up by the always amazing Mike Nash and the Southern Drawl Band! The lineup is fantastic, and it’s looking like it will be another great day! We will have the link up soon to be able to buy tickets. The tickets will be $55 each if you pay on the PayPal link. The event is $50 but we have to cover the service charges of PayPal. So, if you buy from the website, the cost will be $55. If you send us a check or pay cash at the meetings, the cost will be $50 each ticket. Start getting those gift baskets and silent auction items ready! Stay tuned for more details! July 31 – Aaron Scherz! Where – Pete’s House – Admission is $20 per person – with all proceeds going to the musician. We have a couple more bands lined up to play this summer, but we are still working out the details.. so stay tuned for the announcements!! *********************************************************************************** In case you hadn’t heard: Jimmy Buffett is coming to RED ROCKS!!! September 8 and 10, 2020! We have a certain amount of tickets available for club members only. I’ve had the reminder to renew your membership in the newsletter for several months now, for a reason. In order to get tickets, you must be a current member. Tickets will go to club members first, then on first come first served basis as memberships come in. After our members have gotten their tickets, if there are still some tickets available, I will sell those tickets to other Parrot Head Clubs. Tickets are going fast… so contact Robin today if you want yours! I need a complete and accurate count by March 13. Please email the club email account at [email protected] to order your tickets. I can’t take texts, FB requests, etc.. I am trying to keep all the requests in one place because it’s crazy, as you might imagine, and I don’t want to miss a request. Remember, tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis. A commitment to buy tickets means you are responsible to pay for them. You must pay by March 11 so I have a good count to send in and secure your tickets. Each single membership will be allowed 2 tickets TOTAL Each family/couple’s membership will be allowed 4 tickets TOTAL (you can use your tickets at one show, or split your tickets between both shows, I just need to know what dates you would like for your tickets) Please do not ask me for extra tickets. If you have friends who want tickets, they can join the club and I will put them on the list. Asking/begging me for extra tickets will not get you ANY. Tickets go on pre-sale March 5 Tickets go on sale to the public March 6. Jimmy is coming to town for Robin’s birthday week! Stay tuned for details. Bill “Sauce Boss” Wharton has brought his swamp-funk, slide guitar-one-man band, and a pot of gumbo all across the US and to Canada, Europe, and Asia. Sauce Boss cooks gumbo while performing; serving up bowls to the audience at the end of the shows. He has served well over 200,000 people for free at his legendary live shows. Sauce Boss is the guy Jimmy Buffett sings about in “I Will Play for Gumbo”. Wharton’s blues anthem, “Let the Big Dog Eat”, has been covered by many, including Albert Castiglia. His version was #1 on the Roots Music Report for twelve weeks. The tune was also in Jonathan Demme’s movie “Something Wild”. Remember if you book a room at the Casa Marina you need to go register for PHiP’s Meeting of the Minds. YOU MUST BE REGISTERED FOR PHiP’s MOTM TO STAY AT THE CASA MARINA! Only credentialed guests will be allowed into the Casa Marina property during the event. Note: Due to the results of our last two years of Meeting of the Minds surveys the MOTM gift bag is being eliminated for 2020. There will be no gift bag stuffing party this year so it will not be on the registration form. We have quite an assortment of colors (Pink, as shown below, Black, Butter Yellow, Caribbean Blue, Steel Gray, Periwinkle, Salmon and Sea Foam Green). We have a wide variety of sizes, and both men’s and lady’s cut shirts (lady’s cut are only available in pink). The one shown below is a lady’s cut, with both front and back pictured. The front has the original Parrot Head logo on it, and the back has a picture on it provided by Dixie LaHood. The pictures here don’t do it justice. They are awesome!! We’ll have them at all the meetings. If you can’t attend a meeting and would like one… please contact Robin or Pete to arrange getting your cool new club shirt! The cost is $30 each. (if you can’t make it to a meeting to pick one up, drop a check in the mail to us and please add $5 per shirt for shipping.) Events ****************************************************************************************** Jeff Dunham is coming to the 1ST BANK Center (Broomfield Events Center) on April 4. Several in our group are interested in going, so we checked into group tickets. They don’t really have a group ticket sales up there, and we were not able to get a large group of tickets, but we did manage to get a few. We have a very limited number, so we will sell them on a first come first serve basis. The cost is $75 each. Sorry we can’t accommodate everyone, but there are still tickets for sale, so if you’d like to go, and can’t fit into our limited number, please buy some tickets online. The Colorado Parrot Head Club has not had an annual membership dues increase for many years. We increased the dues for this year, starting on Dec.1, 2019. The new fees will be as follows: New Member (Single Membership): $45 Member Renewal (Single Membership): $35 New Member (Family Membership): $55 Member Renewal (Family Membership): $45 For renewals, the dues are only going up $5 for the year. For new members the dues will increase by $10 per year. You can renew online at https://coloradoparrotheadclub.org/renew/, If nothing has changed in your membership level or personal information, you can use the “Quick Renew” option to pay your dues by credit or debit card quickly. If you renew online, there will be an additional $3 added in to cover the cost of the PayPal fees. You can also mail your renewal check or renew at our next meeting. Checks should be made out to the Colorado Parrot Head Club. Renewal fees are $35 for individuals and $45 for couples.
