Hi everyone,

I wanted to thank everybody who came out to both our float planning meeting last week, and those who still made it to Hopper’s despite having our meeting pre-empted by the NFL playoff game. We were bummed to not have our normal meeting with Three Sheets, as planned, but we had a good time with everyone who turned out. It’s always fun when we can flock together for some beers & idea sharing.

This week our newsletter is going to focus on the progress we’ve made so far with our 2015 Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade float, so let’s get to it…

Float Updates:  We had a ton of great ideas, but for the most part they all ran along the same vein. As most of you know the theme this year is “Irish Stampede,” so our float will have a stampede of Parrot Heads, Flamingos and a few western critters, all stampeding to a pot of gold. In place of our usual tiki bar our stampede will be joined by a “tiki wagon.”  We’ll have flocks of parrots and flamingos stampeding towards the gold. We’ll bring back the palm trees from last year’s float, and of course there will be music and confetti coming from our pot of gold, mounted on the front/tongue of the float. The dress for the parade will be western Parrot Heads, so dress up your normal Parrot Head gear with some cowboy hats and other western inspired attire. If anyone wants to dress as some flamingos or parrots to join in the stampede, we’d love to see that too! We want to see lots of birds, as our float will be named “What the Flock!?” and will be accompanied by the story of how our flock of Colorado Parrot Heads were in route to Key West when we saw the pot of gold, and a stampede ensued as we flocked towards this unexpected Irish treasure!

Here’s an idea of what our float will look like, though we’ll probably try to add a lot more birds (parrots & flamingos) to match our “What the Flock” name:

There are still many key details to be worked out, such as how exactly we’ll be building the pot of gold (wood? paper mache?) but much of this year’s float will be design & painting. We’ll probably schedule one more parade planning meeting in early February where we can nail down the details, and maybe even get some volunteers started on painting our flock of stampeders. We had a great turnout at the last planning meeting, and would like to see the same next time so we can have everything finalized for our build.

Float Build Schedule: Build weekends will be February 27-28 and March 5-6. We will be building on a parking lot at Denver Fire Department Station #9 located at Brighton Blvd and I-70. More details to come as we near the build dates.

Final Reminder to Renew Club Membership: Remember, this is the last month to renew your club membership and pay the renewal rate for your dues. You can mail in a check, or pay via Paypal on our CPHC website.  Renewal rates are $30 for an individual, $40 for a family/couple if you renew this month. If you don’t renew until later, you’ll be paying the new member rate of $35 for an individual or $40 for a family/couple. If mailing a check, please make it out to Colorado Parrot Head Club. You can still send your checks to Attn Lynne Center at 5639 S. Quatar Ct. Centennial, CO. 80015, as Lynne is staying on as our treasurer and can process this year’s checks for you.

That’s all for this week. Have a great weekend!

Cheers,
