CPHC Weekly News

Happy Friday the 13th!

Beware of black cats and spooky summer camps today, because it’s Friday the 13th. That means there should be lots of scary horror movies on TV tonight, so it’s the perfect night to stay home with some popcorn and cocktails and get inspired. After all, our Halloween parade is next weekend! That means you have one week to finalize your costumes. I want to see lots of ghostly and creepy undead Parrot Heads in our parade, so do your research!

Read on for some parade updates and more news for this week:

Our Halloween Parade is in 8 Days!

Reminder, there is no October meeting at Hopper’s this month. Instead, we’ll spend that night participating in the 1st Annual Broadway Halloween Parade!

We put together a full PDF document that contains everything you need to know for the parade. Download it here:  CPHC 2017 Halloween Parade Info – Full.pdf

If you just want the condensed version for now, here is what you need to know:

The Broadway Halloween Parade takes place Saturday, October 21 at 6pmThe parade begins at Broadway & 3rd Ave, and goes straight down Broadway until just after Alameda.

There will be some mini build days to assemble the float. Pete has an awesome design, but he can use a few volunteers to help put everything together next week, just before the parade. We are potentially thinking we’ll need volunteers on Friday (10/20) after 3pm, and/or Saturday 10/21, the morning of the parade. If you want to help either day, please reply and let me know. I would like to get a count of who may be coming to help out.

Staging on parade day is 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Participants should park at the former Kmart parking lot at West Alameda and Bannock Street (near the Blue Bonnet Mexican Restaurant). This is at the end of the parade route. They will be running a shuttle bus from the parking lot to the start of the parade for staging. The float staging area will be at the Denver Health Rita Bass Parking Lot at 5th and Bannock. There is no parking at the staging area, it’s limited to float vehicles only. (Much more on all of this, plus a route map, is in the full document.)

Dress in costume! Again our theme is the PHLOCKING DEAD. We want to see Parrot Head Zombies, Undead Pirates, and other Tropical Ghosts & Ghouls. It’s a Halloween parade, don’t slack on the costume. Bring your best.

Bring candy to hand out to the kids, because you can’t celebrate Halloween without candy!

Don’t bring alcohol, it’s prohibited during the parade. I can hear your grumbling about that from here, and I get it. But it’s a short parade, you can make it. Save the boozing for the post-parade celebration.

Our post-parade party will be at the Fainting Goat. It’s tradition to party at the Goat after a parade, so we hope you will all join us for some grown-up treats… aka cocktails. Bring your friends and family (must be 21+).

Now you know the basics, but there is much more to know. Again, please read through the full parade info document for much more specific details to help you be prepared on parade day. Once again, here is where you can download a copy:  CPHC 2017 Halloween Parade Info – Full.pdf

We made our goal, thanks to you!

I wanted to send one final thank you to those of you who recently donated to our Walk to End Alzheimer’s team and helped us finally exceed our $3000 goal. You know who you are, and you are truly the best. Like so many of my fellow Parrot Heads and Alzheimer Walk team members, this disease has hit close to home and personally affected my family. That is why anything we can do to help find a cure is so appreciated. So from all of us who walked, to all of you who gave, I wanted to give one final, sincere, thank you. We appreciate every dollar more than you will ever know, because it brings us that much closer to a cure.

Meetings of the Minds is quickly approaching!

For those of you heading to Key West for MOTM, it’s just a few weeks away! You should be receiving regular updates from the MOTM registration team over at PHiP, but if you have any questions let me know. I’m going to send a separate email to all of you with list of who is attending so you can look for other CPHC members while you are there. Watch for a separate email later today for MOTM info. Sorry you have to hear from me twice in one day!

If you didn’t register for MOTM but wish you had, PHiP has announced they will allow on-site registration this year for last-minute attendees. If you think you may still want to attend but you missed registration the initial registration, let me know and I can send you the details.

That’s all the news for this week. Make sure you check out our CPHC Calendar page for details on all our upcoming events!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Cheers!

Jeff
