CPHC Newsletter
Hello Parrot Heads. Hope everyone is doing well, staying safe and staying home!
Thank you SO much to all who donated for Mike and Jane. You Parrot Heads really came through for one of our own. It makes me proud to be a Colorado Parrot Head.
If you are interested, here is a link to Mike’s obituary. We’ll have a celebration of his life, Parrot Head style at a later date.
Sail on Mike, and Rest in Paradise. Keep the beer cold for us… until we meet again.
Because of the Pandemic, Jane was recently laid off from her job, and will be incurring all sorts of expenses. We still have the online fund raiser going for Jane, for a few more weeks for those who still want to donate.
April’s Club Meeting has been cancelled. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to meet in May!!
Has anyone joined the “Quarantine Concerts Worldwide?” I’ve seen some really good live music on this! If you have a chance watch some of the shows. Many of our favorite artists, like Mike Nash, Rob Hill, Donny Brewer and Sunny Jim are performing live shows on this FaceBook feed. There are performances going on all day and night, with so many different people from around the world. These performers are all doing their own music, no covers (due to potential copyright issues) and the shows are amazing! Tune in and watch!
Jimmy Buffett has also started his “Cabin Fever Tour.”
Starting Wednesday, March 25, every Wednesday and Saturday at 8 p.m. ET and PT. Buffett will be re-broadcasting shows from his live archives via margaritaville.tv or tune into Radio Margaritaville on SiriusXM. You may see yourself or someone you know at one of Jimmy’s past concerts!
There are still some shows coming up. Here’s the full Cabin Fever Virtual Tour schedule:
April 22: Live from Bora Bora (2010)
April 25: Live from Hartford, Connecticut (1995)
April 29: Live from Wellington, New Zealand (2017)
May 2: Far Side of the World Show (various years and cities)
May 6: Live from Dublin, Ireland (2019)
May 9: Live from Key West, Florida (2015)
Looking for ideas of things to do during this “Stay at Home Order?”
Whether you’re working from home or not, being restricted to physical and social distancing can leave you wondering what to do with yourself. One can only reorganize a closet so many times… and, let’s face it, sitting in front of the TV for hours on end isn’t the healthiest of plans. So, the following is a collection of activities you may consider to not only fill your time but possibly save your sanity.
Video Conferencing
Video conferencing can connect to your friends across the country, across the city and even next door. It can be one-on-one or a huge group participating. Some services to consider are Zoom, Facebook Messenger, Skype, Houseparty, Microsoft Teams, Facetime and whatever the Android version is of that and Marco Polo. Google is your friend here if you’re not into those options – there are more out there!
Soak Up Some Rays
Natural Vitamin D is super good for you. Enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail outside in your yard or patio. Heck, eat your meals outside. Enjoying natural light will help you feel better and sleep better… and, ward off rickets. (Be sure to wear sunscreen!)
Get Your Culture On
Want to tour some of the world’s finest museums? Bonus is there’s no chance for pesky tourists to block your view of the exhibits. Check out Google Arts and Culture https://artsandculture.google.com/partner?hl=en
Another bonus is if you have a Smart TV – imagine how great the art will look on your big screen! Also, google your favorite local museum. They might have some footage set up for viewing.
Move It, Move It, Move It!
Waking, hiking, biking and running outside is fine as long as you can maintain physical distance. Unfortunately, that leaves out some parks and trails as they’re saturated right now. But, you can get some Yoga routines from Down Dog for free until May 1.
https://www.downdogapp.com
Also, check out Beach Body and Beyond for their activities. There are many online personal trainers available as well!
Need something to track your journey? There are a lot of apps out there including Map My Walk, Map My Run, May My Ride, Endomondo, RunGo, Runkeeper, Strava. Also, many phones have their own apps. And, there’s always the ubiquitous Fitbit. Also, many of these apps let you share data with friends so you can help keep each other accountable.
Bonus – vitamin D opportunity!
Reading is Fundamental
Many libraries are physically closed but online services are available. If you haven’t used it yet, go to your library’s website and get the details. Don’t have a library account (you may be able to get a temporary one)? This is one area where Amazon is your friend with their Kindle service. You can purchase electronic books or sign up for Kindle Unlimited where you can get a ton of material without paying for each item for one monthly fee. There’s also a free service at Internet Archive ( https://archive.org ). that has books, movies and more. Not into the actual reading part of reading – try out a book on tape!
Continuing Education
Learning is always good! Udemy ( https://www.udemy.com ) has a plethora of courses from professional development to photography. They’re almost always running a good sale, too. Master Class ( https://www.masterclass.com ) has a wide range of classes with some very famous instructors.
Want something a bit more passive but still chock full of info? TED Talks https://www.ted.com/talks has over 3,000 presentations in its library. Don’t forget about Podcasts as well. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/entertainment/g28353940/best-podcasts/
Maybe it’s time to learn a new language? Duolingo ( https://www.duolingo.com ) has over 30 languages and it only takes a couple minutes a day to develop your skill. And, it’s free! Rosetta Stone ( https://www.rosettastone.com ) will charge you some dough but they’re offering a discount.
Get Crafty
There’s something rewarding about making something with your very own hands. Might be time to dust off the old sewing machine or dig out the needles (knitting, embroidery, etc) and make something for your cat or dog to wear.
Some other ideas – rock painting, acrylic or watercolor painting, painting by numbers, mosaic tile creation, miniature room building, Lego kit assembly, sketching, writing, model building, sidewalk chalk creating, terrarium building, etc. Hey, remember macrame? How fun would it be to make a plant hanger?
This is one area where Amazon isn’t your go-to for supplies. Check out craft or department stores. Some will let you pick up at the store. Google is again your best friend, though, as it will supply you with lots of purchasing options.
Gaming
We’re talking beyond online RPG games. If you’re fortunate to have a companion in lockdown, break out the old board, dice and card games. When’s the last time you played Yahtzee or Cribbage? There are also many online/app versions where you can play with others.
Home alone but have a deck of cards? Learn a new way to play Solitaire.
https://www.wikihow.com/Play-Solitaire
Don’t forget about utilizing the great outdoors. Cornhole (bags), croquet, badminton, HORSE, and lawn darts are all options. Just be sure to play with your quarantine mates only.
You can guess what’s next – Google is your friend to finding more of these diversions.
Be Safe And Stay Healthy
Try some of these out or explore your own ideas. Who knows? You might pick up a new lifelong passion.
Jimmy Buffett Concert
As of now, Jimmy Buffett is still performing at Red Rocks in September. He has rescheduled other shows in June and July, but so far, we are still on for September 8 and 10, 2020.
The deadline to order tickets was March 13. I released the remainder of our tickets to other clubs, but I have had a few cancellations. People are thinking the concert dates may change and don’t want to pay for the travel. So, to our members who haven’t gotten tickets yet, email me, and I may have a ticket or 2 I can sell you. If I don’t have them now, I will put you on a waitlist in case I do get more cancellations.
I can’t sell you more tickets if you have already gotten your allotted amount. You must be a member in good standing with our club or another PHC, in order to get any tickets.
REMEMBER: A commitment to buy tickets means you are responsible to pay for them.
Please mail your checks this week to CPHC (The tickets are $165.50 EACH)
Please make check payable to Colorado Parrot Head Club
Please do not ask me for extra tickets. If you have friends who want tickets, they can join the club and I will put them on the list.
We have had several people forget that extra .50 cents. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but with the number of tickets we have, we will lose a lot of money if we don’t collect that extra .50 cents from everyone.. so please don’t forget to add it up correctly.
2 Tickets is $331… and 4 tickets is $662.
Ticket prices include a free download of Jimmy’s new CD, so if you don’t want your email address sent off to get this download, please let me know. If you do not let me know that you object, I will be sending your email addresses to the Margaritaville people so they can send everyone the link to download Jimmy’s latest album.

We’ll have them at all the meetings. If you can’t attend a meeting and would like one… please contact Robin or Pete to arrange getting your cool new club shirt! The cost is $30 each. (if you can’t make it to a meeting to pick one up, drop a check in the mail to us and please add $5 per shirt for shipping.)

Misc. Events
Jeff Dunham is coming to the 1ST BANK Center (Broomfield Events Center) August 5.
The SHOW IS MOVED TO AUG 5, 2020!!
Several in our group are interested in going, so we checked into group tickets. They don’t really have a group ticket sales up there, and we were not able to get a large group of tickets, but we did manage to get a few. We have a very limited number, so we will sell them on a first come first serve basis. The cost is $75 each. Sorry we can’t accommodate everyone, but there are still tickets for sale, so if you’d like to go, and can’t fit into our limited number, please buy some tickets online. It will be a very fun night. “Jeffafa” is a SUPER funny!
