CPHC Weekly News

Hey Parrot Heads! I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day. February is now more than half over, which means we are gearing up for the 2017 Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade! We have lots of parade updates below, so let’s get right into the news!

Meeting This Weekend

This Saturday is our club meeting. We’ll be phlocking together at Hopper’s beginning at 6pm. We will once again be collecting peanut butter, canned food and your pop tops… so bring them if you’ve got them. We’ll be sharing lots of details about our upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Parade float, so you’ll want to be there. Also this month, we need a bit of help selling raffle tickets. If you’d be interested in helping out, please see Chris or me when you arrive. Thanks!!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

There is a lot of news to share about the parade, so we’ll get started in today’s newsletter. Please be sure you read your newsletters the next few weeks, as we’ll have plenty more info and updates as we get nearer to the build and the parade! Here is what we have for you today:

The Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Saturday, March 11.
As we announced before, the theme for the CPHC entry into the 2017 Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade is “There’s No Place Like Margaritaville!” This year we are taking the party all the way to the Emerald City of Oz, (where we suspect there is an awesome Margaritaville, just sayin’…)

All active members are invited to help build our float and march with us in the parade! We will have wristbands available at the meeting this Saturday, and at each of the build days. If you have a family membership you can get 4 wristbands, while single membership holders can get 2 wristbands. Wristbands will be required to party (and drink!) with us before & after the parade. More parade rules will come, but for now, make sure you make time to get your parade wristband.

Start Planning Your Costume!
As we ask each year, EVERYONE who marches should come dressed in theme, which this year means you need to get in the spirit of the Wizard of Oz!  Yes, that means cowardly lions and scarecrows, and witches both wicked and good. However we also need lots of Oz towns folk (aka Munchkins!) which means lots of color and flair – Parrot Head flair included. Of course we could always use a few flying monkeys! Check out the kiddos below for some inspiration on what the people of Oz look like, or go online and you’ll find lots of costumes and fun ideas. Get creative & get in the spirit, as this makes a huge difference in how well we do with the crowd & the judges.

Float Building Starts on February 28th!!
We have a great design finalized… come by the meeting this Saturday to hear all about it and see some sneak previews!

Next Saturday, February 25 we will start building our float. Again this year, the float build will be at Pete Grosskreuz’s home in Arvada. We’ll be building the weekend of Saturday 2/25 & Sunday 2/26, and again on the weekend of Saturday 3/4 & Sunday 3/5. We will need volunteers of all abilities to help with the various projects, big and small, that are all critical to make a successful float entry. We will have more details about the build at the meeting and in next week’s newsletter, so stay tuned.

That’s all the news for today. See you on Saturday! Fins up
