CPHC Weekly News
Happy Labor Day weekend! I’m about to head off and enjoy a little 3-day getaway from work and responsibilities. I hope you get to do the same. I’ll keep things short & sweet today, so that we can all ge to the important business of celebrating the weekend…
Tomorrow: Pete’s Annual Labor Day Weekend Party!
Reminder! Tomorrow, Saturday, September 2, Pete Grosskreuz is hosing his annual Labor Day Weekend party. There will be live music, with the first band starting at 2pm, and the second band around 5pm/6pm. Pete is also roasting a pig, and will have a few drinks on hand to share. Please bring a side dish or something to share with everyone, and if you want a specific drink, please bring your own. You may also want to bring yourself a chair to be guaranteed a place to sit. Finally, please leave your furry friends at home. The party happens in Pete’s backyard. See our newsletter in your email for the full address.
Halloween Parade is a GO!
Based on feedback we received, it sounds like everyone is ready to participate in the 1st Annual Broadway Halloween Parade hosted by the Broadway Merchants Association and City Council Lucky District 7. So mark your calendars and save the date for Saturday, October 21, and know that much more details will come.
I cannot stress enough that we want to keep this a simple and fun parade. There are still lots of details to work out, so watch your emails for updates. Hopefully we’ll have everything pretty much figured out by our September meeting, but the news is your best way to stay in the know. Read more about the parade at www.broadwayhalloweenparade.com. For now, I’ll work on getting us registered & making some initial plans, so lots more news will come…. after the holiday weekend!
Also, since the parade takes place on the 3rd Saturday of October, we’ll participate in this event instead of our normal club meeting. Fundraising for breast cancer charities, which were planned for October, will happen in September instead.
Help your fellow Parrot Heads
The hurricane damage and historic rains from Harvey are causing havoc for many of our Parrot Head friends in Texas.
The Lone Palm Foundation has established a Parrot Head Emergency PHUND to help assist when Parrot Head members sustain damage as a result of a natural disaster. Through donations from clubs and members throughout the Parrot Head nation, the Lone Palm Emergency PHUND is able to give back when disaster occurs. The Lone Palm Foundation is a 501c(3) registered non-profit organization, with a board is made up of Parrot Heads from various clubs. In short, they are “Parrot Heads helping Parrot Heads.”
The Lone Palm Foundation has already begun to receive donation requests to help with Harvey-related damage. If you would like to help them by donating to their Hurricane Harvey relief fund, you can donate at www.lonepalmfoundation.org. Click on the donate tab in the website, and designate “Hurricane Harvey” in your comments if you wish to ensure your funds are earmarked for this cause. If not designated, the funds will still be put to good use as best determined by the Lone Palm board.
Finally, if you know of Parrot Heads who need assistance, please have them visit www.lonepalmfoundation.org.
That is all I have for today. Be safe out there this weekend.
Fins up!
