CPHC Weekly News
Hi everyone, and happy Friday!
We don’t have any club events this weekend, but as a reminder, next Saturday 9/16 we have lots happening. We have our Alzheimer’s Walk in the morning, a club meeting in the evening, and there’s even a house concert down south in Colorado Springs. So make plans to join one or more of those events next weekend. We will no doubt discuss the Halloween parade at the meeting, so I’ll have many more updates on that upcoming event after next week.
Now for this week’s news…
Alzheimer’s Walk Update
Right now we have about a dozen Parrot Heads registered on our CPHC Walk to End Alzheimer’s team, and we have raised over $1500! We would love to see that number climb (or even double?) before the walk… so if you aren’t able to participate, please join us by donating. You can donate at act.alz.org/goto/cphc and your donations are tax deductible.
If you are joining us to walk next Saturday, registration begins at 7:00 AM. Plan on arriving early so you can get yourself some free breakfast snacks and check out all the vendor tents. We did not get shirts this year, so instead I encourage you to wear your finest Parrot Head gear, so we can show everyone how we party with a purpose! Then we will all meet up around 8:30 AM near the starting line.. and I’m sure you won’t miss us! The ceremony & 2-mile walk begins at 9:00 AM, and we will start together, knowing that everyone will finish at their own pace. At the finish line we’ll all meet up again, and once all of us are back we’ll get a group photo taken. After the race we’ll stick with our tradition of heading to the Irish Snug for mimosas and brunch!
I’ll probably repeat all of the above next newsletter, and I’ll let you know if anything changes. If you didn’t sign up but this all sounds like PHun, it’s not too late! Register & join us at act.alz.org/goto/cphc.
Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season…
Keep our Parrot Head friends in Florida in your thoughts as they deal with Hurricane Irma. We have several current & former CPHC members in Florida, and Chris and I have countless family members and close friends in the area. I’m sure you all know someone down there .. after all, everyone has a cousin in Miami! It feels somewhat helpless watching everything from here, so let’s all send them our good thoughts, prayers, energy, vibes, karma, voodoo.. whatever you’ve got.
As we mentioned last email, the Lone Palm Foundation has established a Parrot Head Emergency PHUND to help assist Parrot Head who sustained damage as a result of a natural disaster. The fund is already busy processing Hurricane Harvey requests, and soon they will likely have many more from Irma. If you would like to help, you can make a donation at www.lonepalmfoundation.org. We will be doing some CPHC fundraisers for the Lone Tree foundation soon, and will also be donating the proceeds from the December raffle to help them replenish their funds.
If you hear of any Parrot Heads who need assistance, remind them of this resource. They can get more details and apply for assistance at www.lonepalmfoundation.org.
Finally, we also learned this week that Hurrican Harvey caused significant damage and flooding to the home of trop rock musician Kelly McGuire. I know Kelly comes to Colorado quite regularly, and many of you know him. If you would like to help him out, a GoFund Me was set up at https://www.gofundme.com/tguky-help-kelly-mcguire to accept donations.
That is all I have for today. Be safe everyone, and we’ll see you next week.
Jeff
