Happy Friday Parrot Heads!
Did you hear the one about how Jimmy Buffett went surfing in a hurricane – for real – yesterday in South Carolina? Apparently, Jimmy doesn’t just write these songs, he lives them! However surprising that was for most folks, us Parrot Heads already knew that, didn’t we? If you missed the story, here’s the story from People Magazine in case you missed it:

Well, we don’t have anything nearly that exciting lined up for this weekend, but we do have a lot going on. Tomorrow morning is our Alzheimer Walk, followed by our September Club Meeting in the evening. It’s a packed day!
Events Happening Tomorrow, Saturday, September 15
Join the Colorado Parrot Head Club at the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s!
Tomorrow is the day! The Colorado Parrot Head Club will be joining thousands of others at City Park in Denver as we Walk to End Alzheimer’s! Our club is part of the larger Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHiP) National Team, which has in total raised over $44,000 this year… and we’re not done yet. It’s thanks to all of you in the various clubs throughout the country that participate and donate that we’re able to help make a difference. So, thank you!
Walk Day Details
The walk is at Denver City Park (2001 Colorado Blvd, Denver CO 80205). Registration starts at 7am, followed by a brief ceremony at 9am, and the walk kicks off at 9:30am. Parking around the event is free, but arrive early to help ensure you get a space. You can use the time to wander the park and visit with all the vendors, get some complimentary breakfast, and hang out with your fellow Parrot Heads! For more details about the event, including directions and parking, visit the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s FAQ page.
We’d like all CPHC team members to plan on meeting up around 8:30 AM near the registration area so we can start the walk together. Wear some proper Parrot Head attire so we can easily find you! If you can’t find us, you can text me (Jeff) at 720-839-4527. During the walk we’ll probably go at our own pace & get separated, but stick around near the finish line when you’re done until our whole team finishes. Then we’ll get a group photo and discuss where to head for celebratory mimosas!
It’s Not Too Late To Participate
It’s not too late if you want to walk with us tomorrow! It’s free to register, you can sign up online or in person on the morning of the walk. If you’re nervous, don’t be. This is NOT a run… just a leisurely 2-mile loop around City Park. There’s even a shortcut if 2 miles sounds intimidating. It’s a great event, filled with entertainment, touching tributes, complimentary refreshments, and most of all, it’s a lot of fun!
If You Can’t Participate, Donate!
If you can’t be there in person to walk the walk, we would love if you could show your support with a donation. Anything helps, and every dollar goes a long way to help beat this disease. Donations can be made online at http://act.alz.org/goto/CPHC.
Saturday Night, Join Us for the Monthly Club Meeting at Hoppers!
Whether you walk with us tomorrow morning or not, we hope to see you tomorrow night at our monthly club meeting at Hopper’s Sports Grill at 6pm. We’ll have live music, our monthly charity raffle, and news to share about our upcoming Denver Broadway Halloween Parade!
This is the final club meeting before our CPHC Presidential Election
Because we’re participating in the Halloween parade next month during our normal meeting time (October 20) there will not be an October club meeting. That means that this is the final meeting before our CPHC Presidential Election in November! Right now we have one candidate, Pete Grosskreuz. If you think you may want to be Parrothead Prez and have been holding out, now is the time. If you’d like more info about the role of club President, let me know. If we do not have any more candidates step up, then I guess we’ll just have an election party rather than a vote in November!
Don’t forget the Peanut Butter!
As we do at every meeting, if you have pop-tops, peanut butter, or non-perishable canned foods to donate, bring it with you on Saturday night. The 9Cares Colorado Shares food drive is coming up soon, so bring your donations!
Saturday, September 15 is the deadline to register for MOTM
If you’re thinking of attending the Meeting of the Minds (MOTM), the annual Parrot Head gathering and trop rock music festival, then you better act fast. The deadline to register for this year’s event is this Saturday, September 15. MOTM takes place from Wednesday, October 31 to Sunday, November 4 in Key West, Florida. To learn more about MOTM and to register, visit www.phip.com/meeting.

We Like Beer!
On a personal note, next week is the Great American Beer Festival! It should be no surprise to those of you who know us, but Chris and I will be doing GABF related beer events pretty much all week next week. If you’re going to be attending the festival (or any of the hundred or so beer events happening outside the fest) let me know. Maybe we can meet up for a beer or a GABF selfie!
That’s all folks! I hope to see you tomorrow!
Fins UP!
